Technical Requirements

These guidelines reflect the current browser-based StepWorks workflow rather than an older static requirement sheet.

For the current frontend:

  • use a modern browser with JavaScript enabled
  • make sure WebGL is available
  • keep cookies and local storage enabled
  • use a stable internet connection for model uploads, procedure generation, publishing, analytics, and exports

Editor vs Viewer

StepWorks does not place the same load on every screen.

  • Editor workflows such as Product Twin editing, procedure editing, and export preparation are best on a desktop or laptop
  • Viewer workflows can be lighter and are better suited to mobile devices than the full editor

If you expect to work with large 3D models, treat desktop use as the default.

Hardware Guidance

For smooth day-to-day use:

  • recent desktop or laptop hardware is recommended
  • 8 GB RAM or more is a practical target for editing
  • recent integrated graphics are usually enough for lighter models
  • larger models and heavier editing workflows benefit from a stronger GPU

Browser Permissions

Some current StepWorks features require browser permissions:

  • Camera access for photo reporting
  • Microphone or camera access for recording-based workflows, where used
  • File download permission for QR code, PDF, Word, and spreadsheet exports

If a workflow appears blocked, check your browser's site permissions first.

File Workflow Notes

The current frontend expects:

  • 3D models in supported CAD or 3D exchange formats during product creation
  • product instructions in PDF format for document-driven generation
  • video files when using video-based procedure generation

Operational Tips

  • Close other graphics-heavy tabs before editing large models.
  • Use smaller, cleaner source models when possible.
  • Products without a 3D model can still use document-driven procedure workflows.
